A custom wine cellar
Curved custom racking, built to fit the room exactly, on a fully tiled floor – a Tuscan-style home for a collection of around 500 bottles.
The brief
Build a proper home for an avid collector's wine – racking sized and shaped to fit the room exactly, not off-the-shelf units, styled to resemble a Tuscan wine cellar and holding around 500 bottles at a controlled temperature and humidity.
What I built
Floor-to-ceiling curved timber racking following the room's own geometry, a fully tiled floor, plastering and painting throughout to complete the Tuscan look, and a dedicated cooling unit fitted and concealed in the ceiling.
The approach
Every shelf is built to the millimetre - the racking wraps the corners rather than stopping at them, so the room holds as much as possible without feeling cramped. Plastering, painting, tiling and carpentry all had to line up on the same intricate job, so sequencing mattered as much as the joinery itself.
The result
A wine cellar that looks built-in rather than bolted-on, holding around 500 bottles at a steady temperature and humidity.
