Portrait of Waide, Phoenix Carpentry

About Phoenix Carpentry

Hi, I'm Waide.

I'm a qualified carpenter and site manager based in Rosedale on the North Shore, with over 30 years on the tools across New Zealand and Australia. I work across pretty much every part of a property - and I take my craft seriously.

How I got here

I grew up around the trade. My family ran a scaffolding business in Australia, and I spent four years there as operations manager - learning the business side of construction alongside the practical, and earning my scaffolding ticket and my carpentry qualifications in the process.

I qualified as a carpenter in both Australia and New Zealand, and over the years I've worked across pretty much every part of the construction industry - residential, commercial, big sites, small jobs, you name it.

In 2019 I came back to New Zealand and started working alongside an older carpenter who'd taught me a lot. He developed serious health issues that took him off the tools, so I stepped up and finished off our projects together. From there, word of mouth carried me from one job to the next.

For the last few years I've been mostly in landscape construction, working with clients out in Coatesville and across the wider North Shore. That work is where I come most alive - the kind of project where someone has a vision, and it's my job to bring the craft and the problem-solving to turn it into something real. I've built bespoke bridges, custom decks, retaining walls that hold a hillside together, and full landscape transformations. The trickier the project, the better.

I also take care of regular maintenance for a group of twelve panel and paint shops, so I'm not fussy about what work I take on - if there's a fence to fix or a wall to plaster, I'll do it as well as I'll do a custom build.

What hasn't changed in 30 years is my approach. I take real pride in everything I do. I leave every site better than I found it. And I treat every client's place like it was my own.

Off the tools

When I'm not on the tools, I'm probably listening to music. It's the other big thing in my life - I play guitar, I'm into DJing, and I'll be at a live gig whenever the calendar allows.

The business name comes from Phoenix - my old dog and trusty sidekick for many years. She earned it.
