A backyard entertaining area, built from the ground up
What started as a deck build grew into a full makeover of the property's exterior – kwila decking, a screened-in spa nook with its own gazebo, paving and a patio roof, all in one connected job.
The brief
It started out as a straightforward deck build. Once work was underway, the brief kept growing – into a complete makeover of the property's exterior, taking in a spa gazebo, fencing, paving and a new patio roof, plus assorted other projects both inside and outside the house.
What I built
A full kwila deck on new framing, a screened-in nook for the spa with its own gazebo, a poured concrete slab for the spa base, new paving tying the deck back to the rest of the yard, and a patio roof over the top.
The approach
Framing first, then the decking, then the screen fencing and gazebo around the spa, with paving and the patio roof added as the scope expanded – built in stages so the whole area reads as one connected space rather than separate jobs bolted together.
The result
A backyard that's actually used – deck, spa gazebo and paved area working together for entertaining, on a property that ended up with its entire exterior reworked.
